This 8 km line also happens to be the nothernmost railroad in the world. Traffic ceased in april 1997 due to mine closing, but the railroad equipment is still maintained for future mining operations of the new owner Arctic Bulk Minerals (ABM) a company owned by Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. G12 locomotives DE100 (1954, owned since 1998 by Sor-Varanger museum) and DE101 (1956, ABM) is kept in the loco shed in Kirkenes with the newer DH103 (Krupp/Mak model G1203) delivered to Sydvaranger in Nov. 1990. Sydvaranger also bought a used ASEA T45 from Sweden in 1984, but was not a success plagued with failures and was finaly taken out of service in 1990. The unit was scrapped in 1998.
